SFO - Airport Light Rail Systems Project.jpg

San Francisco International Airport – Airport Light Rail System (ALRS) Project –

S. San Francisco, CA

This project involved an airport rail transit people mover with 9 stops throughout the airport, linking the new International Terminal with the existing terminals, parking garages and the SFO Rental Car Center. The airport rail will reduce airport traffic by 23% annually, eliminating some 7 million trips on terminal roadways and making travel around SFO easier and more convenient.  NBA designed HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems for three passenger stations (B, D, & F), pedestrian bridges, and modifications to the existing sprinkler system at the existing International Terminal due to the addition of the mezzanine and associated vertical circulation for connection of the pedestrian bridges in Sectors D and F.  NBA provided HVAC and sprinkler system in all bridges.  Floor drains and sprinkler system to be provided for the platform where necessary.  Platform canopy to be drained to ALRS track bed and two hose bibles were provided on the station platform.  All mechanical and electrical rooms in each station are air conditioned.  NBA designed the plumbing and fire protection sprinklers above and below guideway structures and under the canopy for RAC station and AS station.  Also, NBA provided air conditioning system for PDS rooms and the UPS equipment rooms.  A pre-action sprinkler system was provided for the equipment rooms. The trains are automated, non-polluting, energy efficient with a capacity to accommodate 4,000 passengers per hour.
