NBA worked on several task orders for this contract.  Many of the task orders involved HVAC replacement.  There were a relatively large amount of heating and ventilating (H&V) systems in many of the buildings throughout VAFB that were old and outdated, abandoned in place and/or not functioning and needed replacement.  For NBA’s set of task orders, a repeated primary focus was upgrading the H&V systems in certain buildings to provide comfort for staff, along with efficiency to keep the maintenance costs and operating costs as low as possible.

One such building was the Missile Maintenance Building 8415 (~ 20,000 sq. ft.) which had multi-zone units such as office space, meeting rooms, a break room, bathrooms, mechanical room, machine and work areas and had High and Low Bay areas, each with their own H&V demands.  The existing H&V systems were old and needed to be replaced.  Removal of the humid conditions in the Water Jet Cutting Room was also a primary focus.  Efficient heating in the High Bay area was a secondary focus.  Bldg. 8415 was an older building with old equipment and lacked as-built documentation and CAD drawings. As part of this effort to heat and ventilate the building, as-built drawings had to be created. For this task order, NBA also designed a new Direct Digital Control/Building Management System (DDC/BMS) in accordance with Base’s specs., implementation, and function.  Through NBA’s selection and design, the use of energy efficient equipment, such as variable speed drives, energy efficient boiler and air handlers, a new BMS system from which to control the new H&V systems should produce significant natural gas, electricity, as well as operating and maintenance cost savings with an acceptable payback period.  We replaced air handlers, air terminals, six rooftop exhaust fans, pneumatic controls, propeller fans, chillers/coils, and cooling towers.

Other task orders included replacing the boiler and HVAC in Building 7437, repairing CRAC units for Building 12000, a Utility Study – Concept Design for Building 8510, repairing the HVAC system for Building 475, replacing 12KV Switchgear for Building 727, Air Conditioning installation for the Bowling Center (Bldg. 10366) and other similar type orders.
